Monte Zoncolan

The ski resort Ravascletto - Monte Zoncolan - Monte Tamai northwest of Piano d'Arta. Driving time to the parking area ≈ 20 min via Sutrio. Driving time all around approximately 1.5 hours.

Magnificent mountain area, also in Summer. Some mountain driving, but the trip up from Sutrio is easy on wide and paved road. In Summer, you can continue to drive from the car park up to 'The Goal' of the famous Zoncolan stage of Giro d'Italia. The road is steep, in some places more than 20%, but it is paved all the way. It is strongly recommended, since the view up there on the mountain tops is fantastic.

Driving further from 'The Goal' of Giro d'Italia against Liaris and Ovaro, the road narrows with sharp declines (see red route on the map above). This road to the Zoncolan highland is the one used in Giro d'Italia. It is said to be the steepest bike stage in the world. The route is exciting and very nice, but not for amateurs. If you don't want to tackle this, drive back to Sutrio the same way you came up (purple on the map above, and black from the Zoncolan P-area).

The drive back through Comeglians and Ravascletto Valley is unproblematic (top black route on the map). If you have time, drive up to Cercivento (purple route top right on the map), where the view is very nice, especially at sunset.
